KELLYE'S BIG RACE

Well its official A room is booked at the Iberville Suites in New Orleans

Saturday night, January 31, 2009 .Why you ask? Its time to party!!!

NO, NO!!! My buddy Chad and my new buddy Kellye, and yea Kellye is a girl. Stop the presses no National Enquirer story here…

Big Al… Sex Scandal!!!

let me explain, one of my hiking buddies Chad is married to Kellye they live about 90 miles away, around Jackson Ms.

So I have never meet Kellye face to face, I just have enjoyed reading their families blog,

it reminds me a lot of my family. We’ve sent a few blog related emails back and forth and through her blog I’ve learned she is into running and plans on running in the Mardi Gras Marathon

(this is a whole and a half marathon on th same day) on Sunday February 1, 2009. Folks... her run is something like 13 miles longgggg, it makes me tired just typing it, and NEVER THE LESS trying to run or even walk it for that matter. Ha-ha. Ok truth is my wife Signe and I have been just trying to get away for a short vacation and this trip seemed like just the ticket, plus we will get to meet Chad’s family and at least get to say hello. But (there is always a but) looks like we are not going to be able to make it...its Super Bowl weekend and we already have plans, not to mention big bucks bet on the game...Ha-ha.
Now that, that is out of the way, let’s talk a little about the race (that I expect Kellye to win)

Course Description
The Half-Marathon shares the first half of the Marathon course (shown in red above). Both courses start on Sugar Bowl Drive in front of the Louisiana Superdome. Head east-south-east onto Poydras Street to Carondolet Street and turn left onto Carondolet heading north-north-east. Cross Canal Street into the French Quarter on Bourbon Street. Take Bourbon Street north-east to Dumaine Street, turn right onto Dumaine for one block and right again onto Royal Street heading south-west. Cross Canal Street and continue on St. Charles Avenue. Follow the streetcars on St. Charles along the curve of the river until reaching Audubon Park. Turn left into the park and right onto the park loop. Make one full loop of the park and exit back onto St. Charles Avenue. Return along the same route to Poydras Street, turning left onto Poydras. The Half-Marathon course turns left on Clara Street and left again onto Sugar Bowl Drive to the finish line. The Marathon course continues west-north-west on Poydras Street.
The second half of the Marathon course (shown in blue above) continues up Poydras Street. The halfway point is at the intersection of Poydras and S. Claiborne Avenue. Continue west-north-west on Poydras to Galvez Street, turning right onto Galvez to Banks Street. Turn left on Banks Street heading north-west to the bicycle path on the Jefferson Davis Parkway neutral ground. Follow the bicycle path to its end on Lafitte Avenue and move to Moss Street. Follow Moss Street along Bayou St. John to N. Carrollton Avenue. Turn right onto N. Carrollton and cross Esplanade Avenue to Wisner Boulevard. Follow Wisner north between City Park and Bayou St. John to Robert E. Lee Boulevard. Turn left onto the bicycle path heading west to Marconi Drive. Turn left on Marconi heading south. Turn left into City Park onto Roosevelt Mall. Follow Roosevelt Mall to Stadium Drive and then onto Dreyfous Drive to Lelong Drive. Exit City Park, turning right onto N. Carrollton Avenue. Turn left onto Moss Street and return to the Superdome along the same route (Jefferson Davis bicycle path to Banks to Galvez to Poydras). The Marathon course ends the same as the Half-Marathon, turning from Poydras onto Clara Street and then onto Sugar Bowl Drive to the finish line.

I did not break it down by age groups, as I KNOW Kellye will take the overall win, most likely taking down the men’s overall time too, my guess would be her time will be somewhere in the one hour range. She is… Grease lighting, I tell you.

Now that you know about the race, lets talk about Kellye, here is what I know. She is married to my buddy Chad has two children Hayden, Sebastian and likes to run…that’s it, that’s all I know.

So I did some snooping on the web and here is what I came up with…first a photo.

She seem sweet, charming and innocent enough…but CHAD said she is a real animal, I’m sure he was talking about running.

But then I found it, after hours of searching the web…the money shot, Kellye after she…dare I say it... she started using steroids to get ready for the race…this is just my opinion but I think she may have used to many.

then she did the un-thinkable and got her baby boy on the juice and I don't mean apple juice...see for yourself.
whats next the baby!!!!

Ok guys I’ve had my fun (its hard to be my friend…just ask Chad, I’v been doing this kind of stuff to him for years. ha-ha) I hope the race goes well for you and wish I could see you guys in New Orleans.

Bike week in Daytona or NO bike week in Daytona…that is the question.

This is a tough one; I found out a few days ago that the big bike week will be held on February 27-March 8 at Daytona Beach Florida this year. Ok here is the problem, I want to go BUT (there’s always a but) ONE: I have already made plans to go on a hiking trip March 6-8; I’m just waiting on Chad to confirm the hiking dates.

TWO: I was already planning a motorbike trip all the way to Key West Florida, and would hate to make two motorcycle trips into deep Florida in the same year. THREE: I just received my new vacation days for the work year and I hate to blow more than a week at a time.
Daytona bike week 2008

Oh yea…there are bike’s there too. Ha-ha.

My first thought was to take the whole week off and leave right after work Friday, drive to Daytona camping along the way, this is around 650 miles. Spend a night or two in Daytona then get up and head to Key West another 450 miles, after leaving Key West I would just follow the coast line all the way back home another 1050 miles (give are take) In case you don’t have a calculator handy

that comes up to 2,150 miles. That sounds like a scary number until you divide it by nine days, and then you’re only looking at 238 miles a day. But (see I told you there is always a but) I don’t want to just drive straight through, I’d like to spend a day or two in several places along the way, if so, I would have to put in super long four and five hundred mile days, trust me that a long way on a motorcycle.

What to do, what to do…I keep looking at the states I’ve traveled map

at the bottom of the blog page and keep thinking those northern states sure look lonely. I am really considering a northern state motorcycle road trip for around nine days. Hmmmmm, just not sure, I have been to Daytona several times (…had fun every time) but the idea of seeing new things sounds really good to me and anyone who knows me, knows I have a big traveling spirit.

What about the little wife you ask? Well she does not share the same sense of adventure that I do. No long distance motorcycle rides, week long hiking trips for her, she's more of a home body that loves to sit around and read good books and take care of the kids. (She does a very, very good job with the kids) I think she is a little scared of the unknown and open road, I guess that’s why they say opposites attract. We are going on 21 years of marriage now…

Wow that’s a longggg time. Three cheers for my little wife Signe for putting up with all my great adventures and giving me the freedom to travel the open roads or even the backwoods for weeks at a time. A lot of women just would not understand...But, I’m not crazy, I'm sure she does a little happy song and dance once I'm OUT THE DOOR.
No husband…no husband…yea, yea, yea!!!

Well I have got to make a decision soon; I’ll post it as soon as I know…I’ll be back!!

Sushi anyone???

Got off work around 4:00pm Friday, went home and quickly became bored out of my mind. Luckily the wife Signe arrived home soon after looking hungry. After a quick kid check; we found out that Myles wanted to spend the night out with his buddy Tanner next door and go to soccer game later…Yes!!! One down, one to go, then we asked Allison, she had decided to sit it out around the house, as she has big plans for Saturday and Sunday. Free at last…Free at last!!! Ok I know this sounds meanto people that don’t have kids, but most parents understand even if they won’t admit it. Ha-ha.

No big plans just dinner out alone…NO KIDS!!!! Ok I’ll stop no more kid jokes. We really do love our kids (while shaking our heads no, did I type that out loud?) . So we decided that Sushi would be nice. Then we were off to our favorite Sushi restaurant, Little Tokyo, in Hattiesburg. We have been going to this place for years, it has had many owners and has been remodeled too many times to count and I am sad to say they still don’t draw lots of people. Tonight was a little different, this time they had added booths and a little more upscale atmosphere and to our surprise there were people in the place eating. Yea!!! I think they are going to make it.
On the way I pulled out my trustee I PHONE and snapped a shot
while waiting for a red light, you can’t miss the place it’s lit up in bright blue lights.

Then I took one of my darling little wife as we entered the place.

Once in, we were seated in a back booth, nice and quite but not a very good location to take photos of the restaurant, so you will have to settle for booth shots.

We had a super nice waitress that spoke very little English, we picked out our normal Sushi rolls and tried a new one with shrimp, crab meat, veggies, rice and seaweed, wow that was good but a little pricey . This roll was 11 dollars most of the rolls we eat run from 3 to 5 dollars; but it was well worth the extra money. The meal started of with a couple of bowls of soup,

followed by the Sushi roll platter,

followed by the fried rice,

then a small plate of fruit (freebee) There was one mistake of the evening, when we order our fried rice we told the waitress we wanted a serving for two and she brought us two huge servings, no big-ee, we got a box to go, knowing my boy would be home the next day and would eat it up. Great meal and a great time with the wife at Little Tokyo in Hattiesburg. Oh yea I almost forgot...the bill, not to bad for all the above and a few glasses of wine.

A KNIFE STORY

Not sure why I started thinking

about this but here goes anyway. This story is about a pocket knife…why you ask, I’m having a bit of writers block

and its all I could come up with, so sue me. Ok to the story, I was opening a box at work yesterday; you know the type with fifty pounds of tape holding it together. So I reached in my pocket and pulled out my trustee Case pocket knife to open it, it cut through the tape like butter. This in turn got me to thinking about how I came to own such a fine knife. It all happen a few years ago when I decided I wanted a canoe for some of my great outdoor adventures, so after a quick call to Bass Pro Shop, I found a canoe to my liking and price range (cheap) Bass Pro is around 90 miles from my house, so we loaded up the Lincoln Navigator, THAT RIGHT I said Lincoln Navigator instead of my truck. I’m not sure what I was thinking…I think something like… it’s got a roof rack and man will I look cool driving home with a canoe tied on top of it. (hmmmm not my best thinking, I’m sure) anyway we get to the store buy the canoe, and the sales people even offered to tie the canoe to the roof, this turned out to be a joke, god bless them they tried. So I did the only thing I could do I pulled the car around the building (So not to hurt anyone’s feelings) and started to retie the canoe. Then I realized I did not have enough rope, so back in the store I went to buy some (this is a big store, so it took awhile and the whole time the family waited in the car for my return) ok I get back to the car and now realize I do not have a single thing between all of us to cut the @#$% rope with…so you guessed it back in the store I went, this time I had to go upstairs to the hunting department, I search up and down the counter for a cheap knife, and then I saw it a small Case folding knife with aplastic handle $ 9.95 cents.

So I buy it and back down the stairs I go to the car, this is the funny part (not funny at the time) when I opened the bag the knife came, it was in one of those hard plastic cases, you know the kind, the kind you need a knife to open it. All I can say is it a good thing I have good teeth as I had to chew my way through the package to get the knife to cut the rope to tie the canoe. It was a long ride home, but we made it, with the canoe flapping in the wind all the way home. NOTE TO SELF: carry my truck next time you big dummy. I guess on a positive side I did end up with a great little knife that I carry every day…the verdict is still out on the canoe. Oh yea since I am talking about knives I added a photo of some knives I getting ready to mount in a glass case to hang on the man cave wall, more on that later.
